Lolita Update 4

I’ve had a good few months of lolita!
After finals, I went to China to see my family members, and saw a total of 12 lolitas during my three week trip.
I saw:
- classic lolitas in a history museum
- sweet lolitas shopping for stuffed animals at the mall
- lolitas with flashy coords at a nightlife-y area
- AP Shanghai clerk and the Daydream clerk (sells many Chinese brands)
I bought a skirt and blouse set at the Daydream store. It was super fun to see lolitas out in the wild outside of a comm meetup which reminded me that, while I use this fashion largely for escapism and community, it really is just clothing that anybody can enjoy.
Here’s a coord with the set I bought:

The Chinese lolita community also has overlap with many people of the hanfu community which was awesome to see. I’d sometimes see hanfu wearers walking with lolitas, and the Daydream store sold a handful of ma mian qun as well!
Overall I loved just existing in China, seeing family, eating food, exploring new cities, and engaging with lolita and culture. Hehe. It also gave me ample time away from the internet and my regular life so I could kind of “start fresh” and relax in a comfortable new environment (also can’t stress how much more convenient life is when everything isn’t car dependent).

Now I’m back at home coming back to my ice cream job and starting an internship. I’m also being depended on by my family much more, now that I can drive. It’s been really rough and I just have no clue what’s even going on every day.
This is why I can’t stress how wonderful lolita has been to me. The whole culture of tea parties, cute things, and frilly dresses is extremely posh, feminine, and exaggerated in a strange but fun way. I mean, I guess that’s why it’s inspired by the rococo period. To a young person like me today though, it feels like I’m living in a child’s dream that could never be real right as I’m growing too old to do that in a way that feels normal to everybody else. That is why I am embarrassed and ashamed every day.
However, I feel like there’s nothing wrong with engaging with escapism from time to time. Of course, if we all lived according to absolute basic survival needs, then the world seems quite pointless. So, I like to dress things up and live a little, even if it means not being “productive” or “normal” to other people. After all, I’m relaxing and enjoying myself in the comfort of my own room — not on a stage.
Without further ado, here are more of my coords!

This coord was uncomfortable… but very cute! I love half bonnets/soft bonnets so much. It’s just so simple, floral, and pink lmao. I love taking photos with stuffed animals too — this is Maple Millie the sheep bunny.

This dress is so casual. It looked so plain that I contemplated returning it. However I’ve been loving simple coords so much lately and I’m glad I could give some wear to this Bodyline cutsew too. Also, meet my other stuffed rabbit.

Honestly, this is all I have for now. I might update in the future, but realistically, everything to come feels bleak.
To end, I’ll share funny stories to lighten up the mood — I learned that putting your foot up like this is called the “comm pose”, and my comm also taught me the history of the Onceler fandom on Tumblr. That was definitely… memorable. And disturbing.
See you soon! I’ll be sure to hang in there and I hope you will too ~
