Introduction!
Thursday, 2 November 2023 15:41Hello! Welcome to Gobelin Deez. Most online circles know me as godofpoop69, gobelin.deez, or grace. This is a blog where I will document my old school lolita journey.
I started my lolita journey exactly two years ago (November 2021), and started out wearing modern sweet.
However, whenever I wore bright pastel prints, I knew that something felt missing. It almost felt as if I was trying to change my self image with 16m petticoats or fill a hole with over-the-top accessories. (Note: not all OTT sweet lolitas feel this way. I just do)
That is why when I saw old school street snaps, I felt a sense of relief. I saw people wearing their natural hair and natural face, with simple solids or floral patterns that didn’t overwhelm the eyes. I was especially drawn to Gobelin, because it’s “frumpy” and “ugly” — or in other words, it has imperfections, and didn’t feel curated for the camera. It’s something I can wear day to day for both comfort and simplicity, and it’s something I could wear for myself. The vintage aesthetic was also something I admired growing up, as I was raised in a small town with lots of antique stores. Anyway, choosing old school lolita felt like a shift towards a more authentic version of me.
So, in 2023, I formally began my old school journey!
Here’s my first old school dress! It is an axes femme Gobelin jsk. I purchased it early on in the year — before I formally committed to old school. Here’s a more recent coord with it, though.
My comms are everything to me! I’ve been a proud member of the Boston lolita society for almost two years. After getting into old school, I made a few new friends and have hung out with them on occasion. I’ll definitely write about both comm-wide and old-school-specific meetups, as well as shenanigans with online comms.
Here are a few of my favorite coords! Since I started my lolita journey wearing modern sweet, I found that my style has moved back periodically. These coords are inspired by more transitional styles in the mid 2000s between traditional old school and 2010s sweet + classic. However, this blog will mostly document my journey towards a more traditional style of old school.
In my personal life, I have loved anime and manga since elementary school. I can’t boast having watched as many as the average long time fan, though, because I’m very picky with shows I spend my time on… one manga I can certainly admit to liking Oyasumi Punpun; my profile (and online handle that most know me by) is God of Poop — a character from this manga!
As of writing this, I’m a first year college student who studies psychology and design. I also work at an ice cream shop!
My current plans for this blog are to document every step of my journey. I’ll write about new purchases, meetups, random thoughts, experiences with lolita friends, art, street snaps/old school media I enjoy, and etc. I can’t wait to look back and realize how much I’ve grown.
As of Nov. 2, I have a couple meetups planned, and my first fully old school haul on its way. Expect gobelins...
Thanks for reading!
